The Women Behind the Weave

High in Morocco’s Middle and Central Atlas Mountains, our rugs are handwoven by Amazigh women from traditional nomadic tribes such as the Aït Ouaouzguite, Aït Bou Ichaouen, Aït Youssi and Zayan. These women speak Central Atlas Tamazight, an ancient Amazigh dialect rich with poetry, symbolism and ancestral wisdom.

Weaving is not simply a craft for them - it is a language. Passed from grandmother to mother to daughter, every knot and motif tells a story: of fertility, protection, mountains, rivers, migration, and the rhythm of rural life. What appears abstract to the untrained eye is in fact an intimate diary woven in wool — a secret code preserving memory, identity and emotion at a time where much of their world is rapidly changing.

At Robert Emile, we are committed to preserving this timeless artform and the women’s cultural heritage through ethical, respectful and sustainable practices. We work directly with these female-led weaving cooperatives, ensuring fair pay, safe working conditions, and the freedom to design and weave with traditional methods, natural wools and ancestral looms. Our mission is not to industrialise their work, but to help it thrive - enabling each woman to earn her independence and support her family, while continuing to create rugs that are not only beautiful, but deeply meaningful.

Each piece you see is a true collaboration - between our contemporary design eye and the soul of an Amazigh woman who has woven her story into the very fibre of your rug.

WHEN POP ART MEETS HAND-WOVEN HERITAGE:
The Charlotte Rose ✕ Robert Emile Collaboration

Charlotte Rose x Robert Emile: “Macbeth (A Dagger of the Mind)” Woven to Life

We are thrilled to present our exclusive homeware collaboration with London-based pop artist Charlotte Rose, bringing her striking Macbeth series to a new dimension.

Charlotte Rose - a Scottish-born, London-based pop artist - has earned acclaim for her bold fusion of mid-20th‑century cigarette branding and literary motifs. Her Macbeth (A Dagger of the Mind) series, in particular, melds iconic Marlboro-style visuals with Shakespearean themes of mortality, fate, and human fragility, offering a provocative reflection on the seductive illusions that brands sell - and the darkness behind them  .

With Robert Emile, Charlotte’s work finds new form, meticulously hand-woven into a bespoke carpet collection that preserves every nuanced detail of her vision. Each rug subtly echoes the imagery, texture, and symbolic resonance of Macbeth, rendered in sumptuous wool and finely tuned to capture both the drama of the original and the tactile elegance of luxury weaving.

In this collaboration, the raw edge of pop art meets the enduring craft of carpet-making - creating homeware pieces that are as visually compelling as they are richly storied. It’s a marriage of bold artistic commentary and artisanal expertise that celebrates both Charlotte’s conceptual depth and Robert Emile’s dedication to artistry.
Charlotte’s pieces are available exclusively via her website and social media platforms.
